Swapping our Boat Shoes for Running Sneakers

After a two year hiatus from in-person racing, this year the TD Beach to Beacon 10K was back in full stride (pun intended). Sea Bags was as excited as ever to provide our support as a sponsor and have a team of 13 participants make the early morning 6.2 mile dash to the finish line. We danced to the live bands, skipped through sprinklers, and took a selfie at each mile marker made by the Sea Bags team out of recycled sail cloth as part of our sponsorship of the race.

Each year, the TD Beach to Beacon looks to expand their environmental practices. When Joan reached out to us in 2019 to find a creative solution to replace balloon towers used in previous races, we knew exactly what to do. The result? Handcrafted mile markers standing a very fitting 6'2" tall made from Sea Bags' signature recycled sail cloth. With sustainability at our very core, we knew that these mile markers needed to serve a purpose after the final runner had crossed the finish line. In collaboration with the TD Beach to Beacon team, we came up with the idea of turning these large sail panels into totes following the race.

"It's such a thrill for me that Sea Bags is helping TD Beach To Beacon 10K be a more sustainable race. As a lifelong runner and veteran participant of this community event, I was elated to be able to share the experience with my co-workers, many who had never run before. Every one of them did great!" – Laura H.

"I had always heard that this race was loads of fun, but never had the chance to participate. I am so glad my first experience was with the Sea Bags crew!" – Peri J.

"I loved the energy of the runners and the crowd cheering us on – the town was super celebratory and made it fun! Loud music, high fives, sprinklers and smiles." – Liana Z.

"Even though I grew up one town over, I had never attended or participated in the TD Beach to Beacon race. I was blown away by the amount of people who came together to either run in the race, volunteer to help organize, or just stand on the sides and cheer on the runners. It is an amazing event to be a part of, and an experience I will never forget." – Amber M.

"This was an amazing experience for my first 10k!" – Sarah H.

In the Long Run...

After the race wrapped up, all of the elite runners who participated in the race and race founder, Joan Benoit Samuelson, signed the sail cloth mile markers. We then had the privilege of auctioning off two of the mile markers that lined the racecourse, mile markers 1 and 6.2, at the lobster bake that succeeded the race. 100% of the sales from these mile markers, which are now being turned into totes, as well as the other five that we will be auctioning off this week, go to the 2022 race beneficiary, The Cromwell Center.

Our production team is now hard at work turning the mile markers into one-of-a-kind Sea Bags Totes. The mile number will be displayed proudly on the outside of the tote, with the map outlining the racecourse lining the inside.

Runners and Sea Bags fans alike will want to line up to watch the auctions which take place from 8am to 8pm for 5 consecutive days on seabags.com. Which mile marker has your name on it?

  • Mile Marker Auction Tote #2: 8/12
  • Mile Marker Auction Tote #3: 8/13
  • Mile Marker Auction Tote #4: 8/14
  • Mile Marker Auction Tote #5: 8/15
  • Mile Marker Auction Tote #6: 8/16

Still wanting to support the cause with the purchase of a piece of memorabilia, but didn’t win the auction? Or did you run the race previously and still want something to commemorate it? There is no date on these items, and they will last a lifetime. 20% of sales from the entire TD Beach to Beacon Race Collection will also be donated to The Cromwell Center. This collection is available for a limited time.
