Handmade in Maine from Recycled Sails

MISSION DRIVEN
From the creation of the first tote, our mission has remained the same
- These core pillars shape our mission:
- Sustainable products and practices
- Made in USA
- Community-focused
We repurpose sail cloth to reduce landfill waste, promote a more sustainable future and delight customers with durable, made in the USA products. We support our community by creating jobs, sourcing materials locally, and contributing to causes that make a positive impact, ensuring that every Sea Bag serves a greater purpose.
Sustainability Highlights

Our Sustainability Pledge
As a company founded on recycling sails, sustainability is at the core of everything we do. We ask the same of our partners, joining us in a sustainability pledge as we strive to minimize environmental impact.

An internationally recognized third party certification entity, Green Circle has conducted a thorough audit of Sea Bags' production process to verify the material used to make all totes and bucket bags are 100% recycled content from sails and sail cloth.

Our partnership with North Sails spans all North American sail lofts across 11 US states and two Canadian provinces. The partnership aims to identify new ways to reuse and upcycle all parts of the sail.
Sustainable From The Start

Founded on the Wharf
Inspired by savvy fishermen who were driven to repair, reuse, and recycle rope, nets, and traps, Sea Bags had generations of maritime tradition to draw from.

An idea to save sails from landfills and make something useful
Sea Bags started as a way to take a discarded item, used sails, and make something beautiful and functional, while helping the environment.

Sourced and made in the USA
A mainstay of Sea Bags from the beginning was our commitment to using materials and labor that were as local as possible, hand-making all our bags on the waterfront in Maine, with materials sourced in the USA.
Our Progress

Sea Bags Sailing Team
Since 2015 we've sponsored the Sea Bags Sailing Team, an all-woman team competing around the country, elevating women in sailing and raising awareness for the need to recycle sails.

8,000-10,000+ Sails Collected Annually
In 2023, we collected over 10,000 individual sails through sail trade. That's enough sail cloth to cover over 37 football fields.

Our Retail Stores
In 2023 we opened our 50th retail store, marking how much we've expanded our influence as a company, offering sailors coast to coast locations to drop-off sails for recycling.
What's Next
"A mainstay of the Sea Bags mission has been supporting causes that align with our sustainable, community-centric values. It's an honor to have partnered with and supported so many fantastic organizations making an impact in our local communities both in Maine and the other Sea Bags home ports."
