We repurpose sail cloth to reduce landfill waste, promote a more sustainable future and delight customers with durable, made in the USA products. We support our community by creating jobs, sourcing materials locally, and contributing to causes that make a positive impact, ensuring that every Sea Bag serves a greater purpose.

An internationally recognized third party certification entity, GreenCircle has conducted a thorough audit of Sea Bags' production process to verify the material used to make all totes and bucket bags are 100% recycled content from sails and sail cloth.

Sustainable from the Start

Founded on the Wharf

Inspired by savvy fishermen who were driven to repair, reuse, and recycle rope, nets, and traps, Sea Bags had generations of maritime tradition to draw from.

An idea to save sails from landfills and make something useful

Sea Bags started as a way to take a discarded item, used sails, and make something beautiful and functional, while helping the environment.

Sourced and made in the USA

A mainstay of Sea Bags from the beginning was our commitment to using materials and labor that were as local as possible, hand-making all our bags on the waterfront in Maine, with materials sourced in the USA.

Sea Bags Women's Sailing Team Sailing on a J24

Sea Bags Sailing Team

Since 2015 we've sponsored the Sea Bags Sailing Team, an all-woman team competing around the country, elevating women in the male dominated sport of sailing. They are recognized as leading USA contenders in J/24 regattas and travel broadly to raise awareness for the need to recycle sails.

8,000-10,000+ Sails Collected Annually

Through our Sail Trade program, we reclaim 8,000–10,000 sails annually, and since we started in 1999, the reclaimed sail cloth we have repurposed would cover 4 million square feet — the equivalent of 70 football fields!

Sea Bags stores offer a one-of-a-kind shopping experience, blending Maine’s coastal charm with sustainable craftsmanship. Each location showcases a unique collection of handcrafted bags made from recycled sailcloth, along with locally inspired gifts.
