I lost my wife, Carrie Lyn, to breast cancer at age 52. Her mammograms documented Category C heterogeneously dense breast tissue, but what that meant and the increased breast cancer risk associated with it were never explained to her by her referring physician. Women simply don't know what they don't know. She continued receiving mammograms alone, without supplemental screening, while the cancer grew within her dense breast tissue until she ultimately found it herself. By the time it was diagnosed, it was Stage IIIC. This does not have to happen to other women."
