“I know quite a few eco designers who build dresses out of old couture gowns. They disassemble, 'upcycle,' and reuse them in extraordinary ways. To me, that's a sustainable way of doing things.” Suzy Amis Just a simple post to give a shout-out to a company here in Maine. Not something I often do so please bare with me.😊 Somebody had a brilliant idea when they started Seabags. They save tens of thousands of pounds of old sails from all the sailing vessels that ply these waters, repurposing them into new, usable totes, bags, etc. Some of the sails they use are from historic ships, some from the masted schooners that sail the coastal waters, some from the many sailboats in the area. I love the idea that they found a new way to reuse this canvas and turn it into something beautiful and useful, saving all of that waste going into landfills. The bag on the left, with the anchors, is actually supposed to be a wine bag but I’ve used it in my bathroom to hold brushes and combs. I know a friend who fills these with sand to use as doorstops in her house. The other octopus bag is basically my summer purse. It goes with me to the beach or out shopping. The handles are made out of sailing rope (another brilliant idea) and they are completely washable. I love to see companies like this, popping up and finding a way to recycle and reuse things, bringing new life to thrown away products.
