Caring For Your Sea Bag
Caring For Your Sea Bag
At Sea Bags, sustainability means creating products built to last from recycled material. Each bag is handcrafted to withstand years of use, and with proper care, it will keep looking great wherever your adventures lead.
We thoroughly clean each sail before using it to craft our products. However, our products bear the marks of its former life as a working sail. These “original markings” may include but are not limited to color variations, patches, rust, and fading. These cannot be removed and they serve to make your Sea Bags unique and carry proof authenticity of its journey as a sail.
While most Sea Bags are machine washable, there are some exceptions. The following bags and collections we recommend spot-cleaning only to preserve their unique materials, dyes, or stitching.
Metallic Leather
Leather Handles, Straps & Patches
Performance Sail Cloth
Black or Navy Handles
Vintage Sail Insignia
Machine Wash Instructions
Machine wash on a gentle cycle with cold water and a little bit of detergent or bleach diluted with some cold water. Hang by the handles to air dry.
Spot Clean Instructions
Using a gentle stain remover, carefully clean your Sea Bags product. For items with special features that can't be machine washed, only clean the sail cloth portion of the product. Hang by the handles to air dry.
Choosing The Right Cleaner
Because we use all recycled sail material, be careful using an abrasive brush or aggressive stain remover. We always recommend testing the cleaner on an inconspicuous area first to see how it will react to the sail material.

No. High heat can damage the sailcloth and rope handles. Always air dry your Sea Bag by hanging it or laying it flat.
Sail cloth is tough and resists most stains, but like any fabric, it’s best to treat spills quickly. Gently blot (don’t rub) and clean with mild soap and water.
Not at all. Sea Bags are made from sails that lived on the ocean, so they’re designed to handle salt and sand. Just shake out the bag and rinse or wash as needed.
If your bag gets damp, let it air out completely before storing. In the rare case of mildew, wash with a gentle solution of mild soap and water, then air dry in the sun.
Our handles are made from tough, nautical rope. They may soften over time with use but require no special treatment beyond periodic cleaning.
No. Too much water saturation can cause damage to the color, texture, and wear of the leather. It’s best to care for these details gently and with minimal scrubbing and cleaning products if spot cleaning is needed.
With proper care, a Sea Bag will last for years. Sailcloth is designed to withstand wind, water, and sun.
